Pollinator Awards

2025 Pollinator – Stelly’s Secondary

At Stelly’s Secondary, teacher Eric Schofield used the grant to create a series of rich, hands-on experiences that connected students with local food systems and the W̱SÁNEĆ community on so-called Vancouver Island. With endless ideas for learning and exploring food systems, Eric reached out to local partners and designed two unique events.

2025 Pollinator – Sherwood Park

The Sherwood Park Planet Protectors, led by educator Shalini Rughani from École Sherwood Park Elementary, used the funding to create a vibrant food garden that highlighted the essential role pollinators play in our food system. Students planted and cared for a variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, many of which were later harvested to make fresh, nutritious salads.

2025 Pollinator – Coldstream Elementary

At Coldstream Elementary, the grant allowed SD 22 Meals Coordinator Dawn Guenette (affectionately known as Gramma D) to expand her role in bringing healthy, local food to students. With the support of the award, she was able to set up a school-wide salad bar, open to both students and staff, featuring ingredients from local food producers.

2025 Pollinator – Peden Hill Elementary

Peden Hill hosted a full-day Celebration of Learning through Food, bringing together students, staff, families, and community partners for a feast that highlighted culture, diversity, and shared values. The feast was a collective effort: two schools with full kitchens and the Peden Hill canteen were used to prepare dishes, with staff, parents, and students all participating.

2025 Pollinator – Highland Park Elementary

As 2025 F2SBC Pollinator Award recipients, students from Divisions 13 and 14 at Highland Park Elementary enjoyed a celebratory school bus trip to Ridge Meadows Farm. There, they connected with regional food systems by exploring the farm, learning about local food sources, feeding animals, and playing in the beautiful setting.
