About the Hub
In the 2018/2019 school year, the Northwest Hub was officially launched to work with and serve schools and communities from Terrace to Houston. Following the lead of community partners including Groundbreakers Agriculture Association in Smithers and the Kalum Community School Society in Terrace, the Farm to School BC Northwest Regional Hub has been strengthening the connection between schools and local food. In addition to the many exciting programs happening in the schools, the Northwest Hub has worked to provide regional projects such as bringing observation beehives to visit schools, starting a regional seed library and creating at-home growing kits to support distance hands-on learning during the pandemic.

The appetite for regional food programs is strong in the Northwest and in 2021, the Northwest Regional Hub was delighted to expand to support the Prince Rupert School District (52) and coastal Indigenous schools. 

About the Community Animator
Roanne Whitticase, farmer and local food system enthusiast, lives, works and grows on the traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation, in Prince George, BC. Having studied in health sciences, Roanne shifted from clinical health to focus on the socioeconomic determinants of health, dedicating herself to food security and local food initiatives. Roanne is a part operator and farmer of the Three Seeds Farm, growing produce for Prince George using organic and regenerative methods. Roanne is also part of the Everyone At The Table Collective focused on bringing the community together around the local food landscape to illuminate strengths and empower collaborative, closer-to-home solutions that enhance local food security, health and independence, and local food community.
