Edible Adventures BackgroundOffering hands-on food experiences to students is an incredible way to build community, ground and connect to the land, and expose students to local agriculture. These activities provide a chance to highlight local producers and teach skills and lessons across subjects and competencies. We hope this guide offers inspiration and manageable steps to creating a memorable (and tasty!) experience for your school community. Curriculum ConnectionsThe activities offered in this guide provide a variety of ways for students to develop Core Competencies, as well as grade-specific curricular competencies and content connections as outlined in the BC Curriculum. Examples of “Big Ideas” for each subject and grade listed in the guide can provide support and inspiration for connecting activities to curriculum-based learning. Webinar RecordingWe officially launched this guide on October 7, 2025, to kick off Farm to School Month! Watch the webinar recording on YouTube for a walkthrough of everything this resource has to offer. The event also featured a special presentation from this year’s Island Region Pollinator Award recipient, Eric Schofield from Stelly’s Secondary. Eric shared how receiving a Farm to School BC grant helped him build new relationships and connect his students to local food. To connect with Eric, email eschofield@nullsaanichschools.ca. |
