The Kamloops region has been a hotbed of local food and food security activity for many years. The Kamloops Food Policy Council (KFPC) has been instrumental in moving forward key strategies for food and urban agriculture in the region and have championed many success pilot programs over the years.
In the 2014-2015 school year, the Public Health Association of BC, Farm to School BC, the KFPC, Interior Health and the Kamloops School District came together as a core Steering Committee to guide the development of the Kamloops Region Farm to School Hub. A Farm to School Community Animator was hired to help guide the development of the Hub and grants were made available to local schools to build Farm to School programs.
Between 2014-2016, the Kamloops Region Farm to School Community Animator worked to develop a broader Farm to School Community Advisory composed of key local stakeholders who give direction and guidance to the Animator for the further development of Farm to School in the region. The Community Animator actively participates in the KFPC network and has since been included as a stakeholder partner in the Kamloops Food and Urban Agriculture Plan and identified as a core program of the Community Food Action Team of the KFPC.
